700 Plus students from India in Canada are facing deportation after it was found that the admission offer letters they received from their educational institution were fake. This fraud was identified when these students applied for Canada PR Visa. The documents on whose basis they received the Visas were examined by the Canadian Border Service Agency which discovered the fraud.

The majority of these students arrived in Canada in 2018 and 2019 for studies. Furthermore, several of these had completed studies already, received Work Permits, and accumulated Canadian work experience.

The Toronto Star has reported that these students filed Study Visa applications through Education Migration Services in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Brijesh Mishra the Head of this Consulting Firm received thousands of dollars from these students. It was for processing fees to handle college admission, Visa application, and tuition fees. The office is now closed in Jalandhar and Mishra has “disappeared”.

Aspiring students must note that only accredited lawyers and consultants enrolled with CICC - College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultant are lawfully authorized to offer immigration consultation. They can charge a fee for their services. Study Overseas Consultants must also be CICC-licensed.

Unluckily, there are Education Agents who take advantage of the eagerness of students to study and work in Canada due to PR opportunities. They are unlicensed, do not have a contract signed and the fee is collected in cash by them.

Frequent scams for overseas students

The students from India have been victims of what is generally referred to as a ‘Ghost Consultant’. They are consultants who do not have licenses as Immigration Representatives or individuals posing as representatives of overseas educational institutions.

They offer various services and in this instance, it is for study overseas by charging a fee and then disappearing or ‘ghosts’ the victim after receiving their money. This kind of fraud can occur in cases of PR Visa, Study Visa's or Work Visas.

Avoiding scams

The basic principle is to second-guess anything which appears to be too good to be real. For instance, a high-paying job to which you did not apply at all is mostly a scam. It is best to disconnect if you are suspicious regarding an automated text, email, or call that sounds intimidating. Get to know the contact details of the organization and directly make a call to them for verification.

Social media is not regarded as a reputed platform to find Immigration Representatives and Consultants. Scammers frequently pose as government agencies or immigration service providers on social media platforms as it is toughest to confirm tier identities.

Overseas students seeking to arrive in Canada for studies or who are confronting issues in processing their Study Permits must get in touch with accredited Immigration Consultants.

New Land Visas are among the Best Canada immigration consultants in India. Our certified Immigration Experts can help you accurately complete the application. They will also communicate with the Government of Canada on your behalf and ensure avoiding errors.
