Federal Skilled Worker Program

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is the main source of skilled immigrants to apply for a PR Canada visa and is administered by the Express Entry program. The FSWP program is for skilled workers with overseas work experience who wish to settle in Canada permanently.

What is the Express Entry Program?

The Express Entry program allows the federal government of Canada to invite skilled immigrants to apply for a PR Canada visa. It is the fastest immigration program that manages the profiles of immigrants who have applied for a PR visa through the following federal programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP).
  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) rankings are the profiles of the pool based on their CRS score. The highest ranked profiles in the pool issued ITAs in the next round of invitations.

The candidate is required to submit their PR visa application to IRCC within 60 days of obtaining an ITA.

What are the advantages of FSWP?

The main advantage of the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) to apply for a PR Canada visa is:

  • To apply for a PR visa through FSWP, an applicant does not need to be connected to the country. If the candidate can meet the minimum program requirements, it is a great option for candidates living outside of Canada to apply for a Canada PR visa through this program.
  • The FSWP has the highest percentage of the number of ITAs issued.

What is the minimum requirement for the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

To apply for a PR visa through FSWP, an applicant must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Work Experience: Candidate must have at least one year of work experience within the past ten years in a skilled occupation classified as NOC skill type 0, A or B.

  2. Language proficiency: Applicant must score at least 6 per band in IELTS (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).

  3. Education: Applicant must complete at least an education equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma. For studies pursued outside of Canada, an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is required.

  4. Settlement Funds: The applicant must demonstrate that they have effective funds to support themselves financially.

  5. The candidate must also obtain a minimum of 67 points in the FSWP points grid.

After meeting all the requirements, the candidate can create their Express Entry profile online. If your application is submitted in the pool, this does not guarantee obtaining an ITA. To get an ITA, they must clear the last CRS score threshold.

How to calculate points for FSWP?

To be eligible for the FSWP, an applicant must score at least 67 points out of 100 in the FSWP point assessment grid. Here are the selection factors for Visa PR points:

  1. Language proficiency (maximum 28 points)
  2. Education (maximum 25 points)
  3. Professional experience (maximum 15 points)
  4. Age (maximum 12 points)
  5. Arranged employment (maximum 10 points)
  6. Adaptability (Maximum 10 points)

After obtaining the required 67 points, a candidate can create an Express Entry profile. If an applicant cannot score the points required for the PR visa, they can increase their score using the following points:

  1. Improve language skills;
  2. Pursue higher education qualifications such as a degree, diploma or certificate;
  3. Get a job offer from Canada;
